UwU Lenny Face

The face that took over the internet

About the UwU Lenny Face

UwU is built from three ordinary letters: two U characters as closed, happy eyes and a w as a small mouth. Its companion OwO uses open O eyes to show surprise instead. Neither needs any special Unicode support.

That simplicity is why UwU spread so far. It types on any keyboard in any app, which made it far more portable than the elaborate kaomoji it competes with — and it became one of the defining internet expressions of the late 2010s.

What It Means

UwU means exaggerated cuteness or contentment. OwO means surprised interest. Both are frequently used ironically, mocking the very cuteness they express.

When to Use It

  • React to something wholesome or adorable.
  • Use ironically to mock excessive cuteness.
  • Add to a bio or username for a playful tone.
